Federico Bonino

Federico is AlterMundi’s technology director and a researcher. He is an electronics technician and sound recording operator whose practice brings together programming, electronics, embedded systems, signal acquisition and acoustic processing.

At SAI, he led the construction and operation of the distributed wildfire early-warning system built around the specialist-developed smoke-detection model. His work spans remote camera control and access, edge deployment, integration of the SAINet model and the software needed to sustain the system under real operating conditions.

At Harmonic Beacon, he plays a central role in sound equipment and production. He works on the signal quality the experience depends on and contributes to experimental development through electronics, signal acquisition and acoustic analysis. This work also forms part of the research and development behind Harmonic Information Theory: Foundations.

His infrastructure work combines Linux, networking and systems operations. At 44Mesh, he developed tooling and procedures for an independent Autonomous System using eBGP and a distributed ZeroTier mesh. He also created WhisperAloud, an offline local-dictation tool for Linux that he maintains and uses daily.

In applied artificial intelligence, he begins with the operational problem and builds the smallest pilot or integration that can be evaluated against an explicit criterion. His approach preserves evidence for reviewing system behavior and, where appropriate, separates deterministic components from language models.
